Eclipsed Birthmark

This is an original poem

Against the rich, velvety blackness
Of the night sky
Lie the many shiny blemishes
That mark the beginning of time.

A cold zephyr sweeps the Earth
As we look toward what our ancestors have all seen before,
A majestic cover-up
That mars the midnight sky.

The shiny blemishes twinkle high up above
But cannot be a steady reminder
For they burn out
Like an exhausted candle.

The cover-up shifts,
Revealing what we've all seen hundreds of times,
And there hangs the greatest blemish of all,
The birthmark upon the night sky.
